Uber has sent out invites for a launch event on May 2 in Mumbai, where it is set to launch its food delivery service UberEATS in India. In January, the company had confirmedthe service's arrival in the country, and now a formal launch is set for Tuesday.
While the invite doesn't divulge into details on UberEATS, we can expect all country-specific information to be out on May 2. UberEATS was first launched in 2014 in Los Angeles, and since then it has increased its footprint to 58 cities. The restaurant food delivery service will compete with the likes of Zomato, Foodpanda, and Swiggy in India.
The online food industry has been on a rise in the recent times, with many options and apps serving up sumptuous delicacies at your doorstep. Uber will have to be really innovative in its strategy in India to make a mark among the digital audience. Ahead of launch, Uber has been taking feedback from consumers, and has also encouraged dialogue between delivery partners and restaurants. UberEATS will presumably launch in few cities first, and expand its presence in India eventually.
In a measure of rising ambition beyond its taxi business, UberEATS will be a standalone app that will offer food delivery from various restaurants that will be delivered by Uber drivers. For now, you can give suggestions of your favourite food places in your city on this Google Doc.
